1965 Bolens Hus-ski 600 snowmobile for sale

WHAT I AM SELLING: Up for sale is a 1965 Bolens Hus-ski 600 snowmobile. This model was only made in 1964/65 and all were sold as 1965 models. Hus-ski snowmobiles are very uncommon, and this model is a very uncommon Hus-ski. This machine is un-restored and appears to be unmolested and is mostly complete from what I can tell. I'm by no means an expert so do your research...

NOTE TO BUYERS: PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VIEW ALL OF THE PICTURES AND THE YOUTUBE VIDEO BEFORE COMING OUT TO LOOK AT IT. THIS MACHINE NEEDS WORK AND LOTS OF LOVE BUT IS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT IN MY OPINION BUT YOURS MAY DIFFER.

If the link does not work just go to Youtube and type “1965 Bolens Hus-ski 600 snowmobile on Ebay” in the search box. My user name there is skyypilot01 so you can search for that too. There are several videos of Hus-skis in action if you snoop around Youtube and even one of this exact model titled "Hus-ski.mpg". Sure looks like loads of fun.

WHY I AM SELLING: I bought this on a whim thinking I would fix it up and have fun with it but after a full evaluation of what it needs I’ve decided it needs more time than I have to get it even trail ready. I have a significant collection of vintage sleds to play with so I am letting this one go. I am quite capable of restoring this and I don't think it would take a lot of money to restore it but it will take loads of time and that is something I do not have.

CONDITION OF MACHINE: Cosmetically it is a bit rough but it appears to be pretty good mechanically. The original JLO L252R single is present and turns with excellent compression and has the original carburetor and exhaust and primary clutch (or it appears so). Some fins are broken off the cylinder head as can be seen in the photos. On the engine tag it says 247 ccm and what I believe is 9.1 horsepower at 4250 RPM. I cannot read the entire serial number but it is there and might be read by better eyes! I could find no chassis serial number so I made one up so eBay would let me list. The track belts look amazingly good so I am not sure if they are original but suspect they are. Some of the track cleats are loose and missing the wood block that sits between them and the rubber track are missing but look easy to duplicate. All of the cleats that I can see are there but I can’t look at all of them though so expect a few missing. The drive cogs are there and from what I can see they look decent. If I turn what would be the secondary clutch on a normal snowmobile the machine moves. The wood handle is attached to the original brake which is otherwise all there. The pivot pin for the original brake handle is there but alas the handle itself is missing. The wood track runners are there but are broken but look pretty easy to duplicate. The ignition switch and light switch are also missing as can be seen in the photos. The chassis “pan” has one good dent right in the front and some wrinkling as you can also see. There are some cracks in the hood but the original decals and paint is still there and looks like a pretty easy thing to restore to me. The tow-behind “sleigh” is in very good shape except for one ski and has been re-upholstered. The coupler is there but whatever “nut” holds it to the stud on the “tractor” is missing.

LEGAL MUMBO-JUMBO: This item is sold as-is where-is with no warrantee whatsoever. This is an antique machine and probably would be considered by Ralph Nader and other sissies to be “unsafe at any speed”. Long ago these were called “leg breakers” since you could pinch your leg between the “tractor” and the “sleigh” so only a total nut like me would ever want to ride it (I am dying to ride on it). I have tried very hard to accurately describe this item.

PAYMENT/STORAGE/SHIPPING: I will store it indoors in a massive steel building for up to two months for FREE once payment is received. I will accept cash in person or a cashiers check as payment ONLY. If you pay by check from a non local bank you will have to wait until the check clears to pick up the machine. NO EXCEPTIONS. I cannot ship this item but could possibly deliver locally for a fee so long as someone wants to come help me load this thing. It is heavy and very hard to move. I will not even attempt to ship this out of the country – unless you pay me a ridiculous sum of money. Think thousands of dollars.

THANKS : Lastly, thank you all for your interest. The price is a very, very firm $800. No trades, no balony.
